Trump’s favourite hobby costs the taxpayer the equivalent of 334 years of the presidential salary

Donald Trump frequently boasts about not taking a presidential salary and yet his total taxpayer gold tab has now reached an astonishing $133.8 million.

That figure amounts to 334 years of the presidential salary Trump’s fans are so proud he refrains from taking. This is the same president who once tweeted about his predecessor in office:

I play golf to relax. My company is in great shape. @BarackObama plays golf to escape work while America goes down the drain.

A few years later, in a similar vein, he wrote on Twitter:

Can you believe that, with all of the problems and difficulties facing the U.S., President Obama spent the day playing golf. Worse than Carter.

It appears Trump is an enormous hypocrite, especially since he promised on the campaign trail in 2016 that he would give the sport up if he ever made it to the White House:

I love golf, but if I were in the White House, I don’t think I’d ever see Turnberry again. I don’t think I’d ever see Doral again.

This weekend marked the 29^th golf-related trip of his presidency.
