In news that will make you check it's the year 2015, Denmark has just outlawed bestiality.
Danish MPs voted 91-75, with five abstentions (??), to ban sex with animals, as part of a crackdown on animal sex tourism.
Remarkably, Denmark's Animal Ethics Council had lobbied against the law, arguing that existing laws that allow bestiality except in cases where the animal can be proved to have suffered were sufficient.
Danish farms minister Dan Jørgensen helpfully explained: "The current legislation does not protect the animals enough. It's hard to prove that an animal suffers when a human has sexual intercourse with it, and that is why we must give the animal the benefit of the doubt."
In 2014 a Gallup poll showed 76 per cent of the Danish population supported banning sex with animals, while a 2011 government report said one in five vets suspected an animal they had treated had had intercourse with a human.
WTF Denmark?
Denmark's move means only three EU countries currently allow bestiality: Hungary, Finland and Romania.
