Trump appointee is mocked during his confirmation hearing by activist wearing a Creature from the Black Lagoon mask

On Thursday, Donald Trump's appointee for the head of the Department of the Interior, David Bernhardt was the subject of a public confirmation hearing but there was an unexpected guest in attendance.

As he was testifying in front of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee an activist from the environmental advocacy group Greenpeace who was seated behind Bernhardt donned a very scary mask.

This wasn't just any old mask. It was a replica of the Creature from the Black Lagoon, a classic monster from the eponymously titled 1954 horror movie.

Apart from being an apt comment on the state of the environment, this was also a criticism of Bernhardt, who has previously worked as an oil and mining lobbyist, which has understandably drawn the anger of conversation groups has Bernhardt is now likely to be in charge of all federal land and natural resources in the near future.

As you can guess, this amazing, short and simple protest has caught the attention of the internet and people can't get enough of it.

Taking credit for the stunt, Greenpeace said in a statement:

David Bernhardt heading the Interior Department would be a dream come true for fossil fuel companies, but a nightmare for the American people.

If ethical violations alone don’t disqualify him from holding this position, his record of selling out public lands and waters to his industry buddies should.
