Governor of New Jersey Chris Christie capitulated to Donald Trump in the race to become Republican nominee for president way back in February.
Not that he looked happy about it.
Christie's prospects don't exactly look like they've improved since then: a snippet in the latest New Yorker says that Christie, presumably in a bid to secure a position on Trump's ticket, has been fetching the Donald's McDonald's for him:
Governor Chris Christie, of New Jersey, another of Trump’s opponents early in the campaign, has transformed himself into a sort of manservant, who is constantly with Trump at events. (One Republican told me that a friend of his on the Trump campaign used Snapchat to send him a video of Christie fetching Trump’s McDonald’s order.)
Christie's team has furiously denied that such an incident ever happened, calling the anecdote a "ridiculous, completely invented scenario".
Brian Murray, a spokersperson, told Business Insider:
We categorically deny this ridiculous, completely invented scenario, which the writer attributed to an unnamed source's anonymous friend.
The fact the writer relegated this bit of sleaze between parentheses certainly indicates he knew it was trash that had to be separated from the rest of the story.
We're not convinced, though. Subservience to King Trump is a slippery slope. And there's evidence Christie has already taken a few steps down that fateful path.
