California is trying to stop its cows farting so much

California's governor Jerry Brown is a staunch global warming campaigner, who has supported a number of environmental initiatives, including the reduction of air pollutants.

On Monday he signed legislation which would regulate greenhouse emissions from landfills and dairy farms.

The legislature writes:

This bill would require the state board, in consultation with the Department of Food and Agriculture, to adopt regulations to reduce methane emissions from livestock manure management operations and dairy manure management operations, as specified.

In layman’s terms, the governor just signed a bill to regulate cow farts.

The problem, however, remains: how does one control the flatulence patterns of bovine creatures?

The CEO of the Western United Dairymen (WUD) Anja Raudabaugh said:

The Air Resources Board (ARB) wants to regulate cow emissions, even though the ARB’s Short-Lived Climate Pollutant (SLCP) reduction strategy acknowledges that there’s no known way to achieve this reduction.

'A' for effort, Governor Brown, but the fact of the matter is, you probably can't.
