How to protest Brunei’s horrific anti-LGBT+ laws if you don’t regularly stay at The Dorchester

Brunei's decision to introduce harsh new legislation that includes punishing gay sex with death by stoning has provoked outrage across the world.

Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah's call for "stronger" Islamic teachings has seen a sharia criminal code introduced to the former British protectorate's existing common law system this week.

This means offences including rape, adultery, robbery and insulting the Prophet Muhammad are now punishable by death.

Thefts will be punished by amputation of the perpetrator's hand and women seeking an abortion will risk a public flogging as a result of a measure branded "draconian" and "inhuman" by the UN.

Celebrities George Clooney, Sir Elton John and Ellen DeGeneres are among those to have called for a boycott of all Brunei-owned properties around the world in retaliation.

A noble gesture but, realistically, how often do you book a luxury suite at The Dorchester anyway?

Twitter user Bradley Tubb has a more practical solution: boycotting all countries in which gay sex is illegal.
