Showing Muslims pictures of bacon is especially stupid

For some reason, anti-Muslim xenophobes seem to think that bacon is deeply offensive to Muslims.

You see incidents like this far too regularly:

Pork is prohibited in Islam by a verse of the Koran, which reads:

Forbidden to you (for food) are: dead meat, blood, the flesh of swine, and that on which hath been invoked the name of other than Allah.

Much in the same way Catholics abstain from meat on Fridays, or the laws of Kashrut or Kosher foods in Judaism.

A Twitter user called George McIntyre decided to celebrate Ramadan, a holy month in Islam which is marked by fasting, by trying to offend a group of religious people. By tweeting them a picture of bacon cooking.

It sounds like he's got a lot of mates.

He tweeted:

He then followed up (conflating 'Arabic' with 'Muslim', because there wasn't enough stupid in his original tweet):

As people pointed out, Muslims are kind of fine without bacon and also fine to talk about it.

It's not a topic of offence, they're just tired of being bated by xenophobes with something so nonsensical.

The best exchange was probably this:

Can you imagine being so dull, angry and friendless that all you have to do on a Sunday is tweet pathetic, bating crap like that?

Oh wow, ok.

More: Someone tried to intimidate a Muslim person with bacon. It immediately backfired
