US politician and congressional candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has responded to critics who slammed her for appearing in an expensive outfit for a magazine shoot.
The 28-year-old Democrat who shot to fame earlier this year after she won her party's primary in New York's 14 congressional districts, took part in an interview and shoot forInterview magazine, which was published on September 5.
Ocasio-Cortez, who is a renowned socialist and had previously worked as an organiser for Bernie Sanders's 2016 presidential campaign, has found herself being accosted by her opponents for the outfit she wore in the interview.
The suit she wore is worth $3,500 and the shoes retailing at $600. Now, we're not in the business of shaming someone for wearing nice clothes because of their political views but Fox News think otherwise.
In a segment on Fox and Friends on Saturday hosts Katie Pavlich and Pete Hegseth jokingly mocked Ocasio-Cortez for her "expensive tastes."
Pavlich started by saying:
The rising star of the Democratic Party has expensive tastes for a socialist.
For a photo shoot for Interview Magazine. Her pant suit — appropriate — retailing more than $2,800 alone.
And the shoes $600 bucks.
As the studio gasped in shock and awe, Hegseth chimed in:
It's tough being a socialist. It really is.
Pavlich then added:
I mean I want a pair of $600 shoes.
I think she should redistribute…hypocrisy at its best.
This sarcastic mocking of the politician came after she was criticised on social media by conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who runs the right-wing student education group Turning Point USA.
On Friday the 24-year-old criticised Ocasio-Cortez for 'pretending to be a champion of the people.'
This prompted a response from Ocasio-Cortez who labelled Kirk as a member of the alt-right, accused him of not understanding how magazine shoots work and that she doesn't "pretend" to fight for living way and Medicare. She actually does it.
Also, you better get used to her 'lewks' because she is 'slaying' them.
Her retort prompted a response from Kirk who quickly changed to subject to a debate that he and Candace Owens had offered her to take part in.
