An Australian mother who spent a few days in hospital this month with her nine-week-old son was given a lovely surprise by a complete stranger.

After they were discharged and had walked to the car, the mother from Canberra found that a parking ticket had been attached to her windscreen during the stay in hospital.

The note, from a woman named Laura, read:

Hi there,

I saw your car had a parking ticket on it. I’m sure whatever you are going through at hospital is tough enough, so I have paid for you.

Hope things get better!

The post to the Facebook group ‘Canberra Mums’ has gathered almost 50,000 likes and nearly 5,000 shares (at time of writing) in only 12 hours.

The anonymous mother wrote in the community post:

I hope that Laura sees this and knows how much I appreciate her support.
