The pessimists among us feel that this entry for the Turner Prize sums up 2016.

It's that time again! The Turner Prize show at Tate Britain has just opened, and come January, the winner of the prestigious art award will be announced, probably after a weird two hour long programme where Lauren Laverne talks about the art without showing you any of it properly.

The nominees have been announced, and among them is Anthea Hamilton, whose piece 'Project for a Door (After Gaetano Pesce)' has attracted some smug smirks from the anti-modern art brigade.

It's also led some to draw comparisons with another 2016 contest.

The enormous scultupure of a man's buttocks has led many to draw comparisons with the current state of 2016.

The other nominees for the 2016 Turner Prize are Michael Dean, Helen Marten, and Josephine Pryde.
