Tom Hardy shared a photo of these abandoned puppies to help them find a new home

Tom Hardy plus dogs is one of the world's more endearing combinations.

Last year, Hardy shared a moving, poignant Tumblr post on the loss of his dog.

Now, Hardy has demonstrated his fondness for doggos once more by helping re-home four seven-week-old Staffordshire Bull Terriers.

The puppies had been trapped in a box and left in the cold - but they had a "lucky escape" when they were found by a passer-by and rushed to Battersea Dogs & Cats Home.

Battersea’s Intake Manager Steve Craddock said:

The whole experience must have been very frightening for them. It was a cold day and they could have easily got hypothermia, suffocated or died of dehydration.

Fortunately, they were found in time and - after a drink, a sleep and some TLC - made a full recovery, and now they’re charging about enjoying life with playful puppy enthusiasm.

Battersea named the pups after famous suffragettes to commemorate the hundred-year anniversary of the women's vote.

There's Emmeline for Emmeline Pankhurst, Lydia for Lydia Becker, Edith for Edith Garrud and - the one brother - Davison after Emily Davison.

When Tom Hardy heard about the puppies, he took to Instagram to convince people to take them in.

The waiting list exploded - and we already have a photo of Emmeline in her new foster home.

Foster carer Kim Tyson, who is looking after Emmeline and Davison, said:

They were a bit quiet when they first arrived, but within a few hours they found their feet and now they run the house. I’ve got two Dalmatians and they certainly rule over them.

They love human company and cry when we’re not around, and they like to sleep cuddled up together.

They’re very sweet little dogs and I can’t understand how anyone could have abandoned them like that. I hate to think what would have happened if they hadn’t been found when they were

All the other puppies are destined for new homes too. After all, how could anyone resist?

Battersea’s Intake Manager Steve Craddock told indy100:

Tom Hardy has long been a supporter of Battersea and we’re very grateful to him for sharing the story of these puppies. Although all of the puppies now have homes lined up, we’re hoping that Tom’s star quality will encourage people to go onto our website and consider rehoming one of our other Battersea dogs.

There are plenty of other dogs and cats looking for a family. Find out more here.
