Nigel Farage accused of 'bottling it' after pulling Brexit Party candidates from Tory-held seats

After a few weeks of doubts and confusion, Nigel Farage has confirmed that his Brexit Party will not be contesting every seat in the UK as they had previously promised.

Speaking at a press conference today, Farage confirmed that his candidates will not contest the 317 seats that the Tories won at the 2017 general election.

He claimed that this decision came after realising that if the Brexit Party had fielded candidates in every seat in the UK then it could lead to a split vote which may have allowed Liberal Democrats to win the seat and thus affect Brexit.

The Brexit Party will not contest the 317 seats the Conservatives won at the last election. If we do field 600 candidates – there will be a hung parliament.

Farage's bombshell is likely to have a major effect on the election, especially as there seems to be no cooperation between parties in favour of remaining in the EU. Although there appears to be no obvious alliance between the Tories and the Brexit Party, Farage has clearly understood that if he were to field candidates everywhere then it could effect Brexit.

On Twitter, many users, including MPs and commentators have been quick to brand Farage as a bottler, with others claiming that the Tories are now basically the Brexit Party.

Others used the announcement to mock Farage, a man who is well known for succeeding in elections and standing by his promises.

Obviously, some felt that he had made the right decision for the country and Brexit.

Perhaps it's time for other parties to start working together?
