Family Guy shows Trump groping Meg Griffin and viewers are very divided

Seth McFarlane’s Family Guy pulls precisely zero punches when it comes to making fun of people. It drags the famous and the infamous, and in its latest episode, titled 'Trump Guy', it goes in on the US president.

In the episode, all the main players around Trump are dragged, including Ivanka Trump, Jared Kushner and Senate minority leader Mitch McDonnel.

Peter Griffin is hired as Trump’s press secretary in Washington and, well, things go down hill from there.

Later in the episode, an orange-faced Trump gropes Meg Griffin in the Oval Office after she bumped into Ivanka at a White House dinner.

When Meg shares the assault with her mum, she responds with doubt:

Meg, you expect us to believe that the president of the United States would grab a woman by her [beeped word]? That's ridiculous.

The controversial scene is an apparent reference to the 2005 Access Hollywood tape, a secret recording which had Trump saying he liked to "grab women by the p***y."

Awkward.

Executive producer Rich Appel told Entertainment Weekly of the reasoning behind the story line: "The only point in using Meg was to show that men like Trump can attempt to prey on vulnerable people.

It’s clearly offensive and gross and not appropriate. But not only didn’t we not want to show it, we don’t want to be too explicit about exactly what happened.

Appell added that he and his team wanted to show how Peter and Lois struggled to believe "that the president could be accused of an unwanted touching."

In another part of the episode, Family Guy drew laughs over Trump's finances.

Some viewers loved the episode, which was two parts satire, one part parody.

One fan praised the show: "Can’t believe I’m saying this, but tonight’s Donald Trump ep of #FamilyGuy was not only the best FG ever but the funniest, most SAVAGE, most on-point episode of a comedy I’ve seen since November 2016. NO ONE in that grifter family was spared. Bravo."

But others thought the allusion to sexual assault was too much, and called the episode a 'dumpster fire'.

And a "liberal whine fest".

Others pointed out that Family Guy has a history of making fun of US presidents... Trump isn't special.
